The Dark Knight

I watched The Dark Knight on 12.20 am 19th July at a cinema in Kuantan and I tell you, I won't mind watching 10 times over... This movie is probably one of the best superhero movies ever, slightly better than IRON MAN... Man 1/4 of the movie's performance has to be credited to Heath Ledger's rendition of The Clown Prince of Crime JOKER... Critics may say more than 50% of the film is credited to Heath but I don't... Still, he might get the Oscar many people wanted...

This is not a suitable family movie or a superhero movie for kids such as the kiddish Spider-Man series or the family friendly Iron Man. To me this is one of the most violent U rated movies I've ever seen...

Although we all know Batman has no superpowers and his technology isn't as advanced as Iron Man, he faces a challenge bigger than the one Superman or Spider-Man faced... the maniac Joker... Unlike the Joker from 1989's Batman by Tim Burton, this Joker is way more insane than the one played by Nicholson and Heath's Joker is more intelligent in planning his crimes such as making his hostages look like terrorists and switching locations of his victims so Batman will get to Harvey Dent rather than his girlfriend Rachel...

This Joker also knows how to fight Batman physically, trapping the bat in a net and beating him with a metal pole... The Joker also has lots of tricks up his sleeves such as grenades activated by yo-yo's and of course Joker cards.. But this film does not feature the classic "BANG! flag gun" and there is no Joker gas... In this film, Joker's crimes are more notorious and huge, he's not a criminal, he's a TERRORIST! He blows up a hospital and almost blows up two ferries full of passengers...

In The Dark Knight, Joker tries to make Batman and Harvey Dent go insane but although he fails to corrupt Batman, he does succeed in corrupting Harvey Dent, turning him into Two-Face

Unlike Superman, Iron Man or Spider-Man, Batman's love interest gets blown up by The Joker unlike in Spider-Man 3 where Spidey saves Mary Jane from Venom or in Iron Man where Tony saves Pepper from Iron Monger... Not the usual superhero movie concept...

Plus, Harvey Dent also transforms into Two-Face at the last quarter of the film... At least better than Tommy Lee Jones wacky Joker-like version...

The less said about Edison Chen's appearance the better...

Of course I rate this film A because the director violated the concept of superhero movies and creating a masterpiece out of it....

When I first heard Heath Ledger is due to act as The Joker, I was not very happy, why not Mark Hamill who made a good job in the cartoon, or Robin Williams, Steven Carrell or even Jim Carrey who has a Joker-like facial structure... Well, when you watch it, you know why because he's done better than the others can do...
