Spielberg for Harry Potter, Dark films and other movie related titles...

As a big fan of GOOD movies, it is always necessary to be a big fan of Steven Spielberg. I read a Wikipedia article which stated Warner Brother's executives chose Spielberg to direct Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was the first film of the series. With classics such as Jaws, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, E.T., Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park in his filmography, it was wise to hire an expert to direct a film which such grandeur.

I was also surprised Francis Ford Coppola who directed the critically-acclaimed The Godfather and The Godfather Part II wasn't contacted. He would be a perfect choice for a large scale film which is dark and filled with grandeur like Godfather. Nuff said...

However, the executives were stubborn towards the EXPERT'S advice because Spielberg wanted a dark movie but the executives wanted to give a family-film. True enough, the first Harry Potter was very kid-friendly. The proceeding films were darker although kid-friendly elements remained. I have a feeling Half Blood Prince looked darker which is cool for me. I like dark and gothic films. For example, compare The Dark Knight and the gay and cartoonish Batman & Robin.

Many people say Twilight is dark and gothic but I dislike films with too much romance. Example Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones was more of a romance film than a science fiction one. Star Wars IV and Star Wars I were not dark but everything else was good. The others were good because there was a good balance between fun and dark elements. Star Wars III was the darkest and possibly the best. It would be better if we get to see more of Darth Vader.

Those days in the 70's-90's, many films were good. Today, many of the sucked big time. Take Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for example. Yea, there were more action scenes but everything else didn't work. If you wanna know what movies I enjoy watching, it is simple...

A non-comedy or animated film MUST BE DARK which means there must be a good villain/bad guy in it. C'mon, name me an action film without good villains. However, there may be some exceptions, I still enjoy the latest Star Trek and Indiana Jones although they weren't that dark.
